The imposter [2010]

The Imposter stars Kevin Max (dc Talk), Jeff Deyo (formerly of Sonicflood), and Kerry Livgren (Kansas). The story revolves around Johnny C (Max), the front man of the Christian rock band Grand Design. His substance abuse and marital infidelity jeopardize his role in the band, his marriage and ultimately, his identity in Christ. God uses two unexpected people to help him see who he has become and what he has lost. The storytelling in this film refuses to end with a rose-colored personal journey of recovery but depicts a realistic soul-searching struggle.
From the opening credits of the film the creative spark is seen throughout the film, which was marvelously written and directed by Daniel Millican and produced by Jeff Rodgers and Courtney Price. Each actor brings his or her own flair to the film. Max offers a shrewd portrayal of a lost soul. Deyo displays a natural acting ability. Livgren’s compelling presence and voice on the screen is singular. Arianne Martin’s emotionally evocative facial expressions are captivating, matched by Tom Wright’s downright grasp of the particularities of human behavior. Troy Baker’s character of a swindling record producer is ingenious and comedic.
This film offers the viewer layers of messages to take away from it. Substance abuse, marital infidelity, authentic worship, identity and talents are some of the issues addressed in this film, within the context of the Christian music industry, but not exclusive to it. Although its initial target would appear to be the church body, its reach encompasses all who struggle with any of these issues. But for this viewer, the question that Jesus asked 2000 years ago echoes throughout the film, “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?”

Set Apart combines the action and excitement of a Western with the laughter of a comedy to become a poignant coming-of-age drama. Four inner-city kids are each at a crossroad in their young lives; their decisions and actions could set them down life’s slippery slope. Fortunately, Pastor John Gunn (John Schneider) and his Power Company Kids’ ministry are watching out for them. Even he knows, however, that the city is the last place these four should be. So he asks his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Heidi Gunn (playing themselves), to help out by showing these city kids “The Cowboy Way.”
The title of the movie Set Apart reminds us that as children of God we are set apart for a special purpose. "Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself" Psalm 4:3a (NIV). This film mixes comedy and Wild West action to get across a powerful message. The story is about 4 teens from a tough city where drugs, prostitution, and violence are part of their normal life. These kids are in a fight for their lives trying to make the right decisions, but the gangs are making that very hard. A preacher, played by John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard), noticing that these kids are at high risk, asks his brother, Randy Gunn, to take them to his ranch, to see a different way of life. While at the ranch these teens learn about hard work, responsibility, true friendship, and above all that God loves them. Today teens are faced with tough choices all around them. They are desperately looking for love and acceptance. Who are we going to let influence our teens – God or gangs?

A film based on a true, touching story of how faith and love can overcome a lifetime of pain and anger.
Dan Donahue (Thom Matthews) has finally met the woman of his dreams. But on the night he is going to propose, he is overcome by deep-rooted anger caused by the father who abandoned him as a boy. Dan confronts his feelings of bitterness head on as he pours out his heart in a letter to his father.
As Dan writes, we see his life unfold, feeling his pain and ultimate joy, as we watch him grow from young boy to troubled teen and finally into a strong, spiritual man.
In the end it is Dan's father, played brilliantly by John Ashton (Beverly Hills Cop I,II, III) who must face his own failures as a father in a climactic one on one meeting with the son he left behind.

Clancy Miller (Christina Dawn Fougnie) is an abused 12 year-old who runs away to keep from getting taken away by social workers. Out on the streets she meets up with Nick (Jefferson Moore), an ill-tempered. homeless veteran.
